Our Technology
Optical Coherence Tomography
Our OCT is the closest thing we have to a Swiss Army knife in the office. It bounces harmless lasers off of partos of your eyes and then records the resulting reflections. This provides information about the condition of the retinal layers as well as the front of the eye. The examination can help identify early signs of disease of the retina, optic nerve head, and anterior segment.
This technology is used for many conditions, but most-notably glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and even complex contact lens fits.
Optomap Retinal Exam
Getting an optomap image is fast, painless and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye at any time. It is suitable for the whole family. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken.
Under normal circumstances, dilation drops might not be necessary, but your eye doctor will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on the health of your eyes. The image capture takes less than a half second and they are available immediately for you to see your own retina. You see exactly what your eye care practitioner sees - even in a 3D animation.
Perimetry (Visual Fields)
Visual fields are the map of how much you can see in front of you. We measure either the sensitivity of your retina or simply how far left, right, up and wo nyou can see in each eye.
Certain diseases cuse visual field loss such as glaucoma, retinal diseases, detachments, etc.
We perform a screenign visual field on all patients. If you fail this test, we may schedule a full visual field on our Haag Streit Octopus 900 Pro which is a University-level machine that will not only asses your visual fields, but track them over time.
Digital Phoropter
Phoropters have gone largely unchanged for over 100 years. They are essentially a large pair of glasses with every conceviable prescription in them. We use them during what is called the 'subjective refraction' which is where the subject (patient) tells us what prescription they prefer.
The difference with a digital phoropter is accuracy. We can more-accurately fine tune your prescription down the single degree. We can also very easily show you several options of Rx such as between your new and old Rx with just one button. This procudes a better and faster Rx.
Corneal/Optical Imaging
Corneal topography has been around for a long timel however, our topographer is much more. Our corneal imaging unit is an all-in-one machine that can give us important information not only abuot the health of the eyes, but also the quality of vision.
We use our toporgrapher for all of the following:
- Corneal topography
- Keratoconus screening
- Pupillography
- Meibography
- Contact Lens Application Module
- Tear Film Analysis
- Altimetry
- Aberrometry
AR/K/NCT
Our Marco M3 is a 3-function tool that measures your ocular parameters as part of your pretesting. It replaces 2 different machiens of the past:
- Autorefractor
- Keratometry
- Non-contact tonometry - the "air puff" (NCT)
Pachymeter
Our Pachmate 2 pachymeter is an ultrasonic device that measure the thickness of your cornea using inaudible sound waves.
Corneal thickness varies depending on several disorders including corneal dystrophy, contact lens abuse, etc. Corneal thickness is also a variable in determining your risk of glaucoma.
This test is quick and painless only requiring a drop of anesthetic.
